Write out a Scripture each day following the order of the verses below.  I have sorted the verses in Bible order so that you get used to seeing how God works in the Bible (from beginning to end) and in the hopes that you will see God working in your life (from beginning to end). Also, this is not only to draw your attention to flourishing in the grace and teachings of God's Word but to instill in you the basic practice of being in and writing out Scripture every day.  Challenge yourself to be disciplined in this habit!  Many of you have some sort of notebook in which you are writing these verses.

But first, a few words for you to keep your mind fresh:

June 2023 DSW - GOD'S TIMING

I love collections of Scripture that speak to God's perfect timing.  They are so reassuring!  Some of them speak to the nation of Israel and some speak to waiting on God for each of us during our own personal times of waiting.  I know the pain of waiting and I know the joy of waiting.  It was good to read over these verses again in my current time of waiting; I hope you are calmed and reassured as you read and write out these verses every day this month.

Times of waiting are not times to "just get through."  They are sweet times of knowing God and His character.  I pray you find God in new and more intimate ways.  He loves you.

Bible Paragraph Summary - Acts & Romans

  Give instruction to a wise person and he will become still wiser; teach a righteous person and he will increase his insight.  Proverbs 9:9

My NAS Bible has chapter summary headings--sometimes more than one--as you can see in the picture above of the beginning of Matthew.  See the words in the bolded font?  Apparently not all Bibles have this and since I've used the NAS all of my life, I never knew (or really realized) that some Bibles don't have these headings!  I like getting a sort of preview of what is going to happen in the words that follow.  I suppose these are included at the discretion of the translator and publisher.

I decided to type these out for every Bible book and chapter so I could easily reference where a particular story or topic was instead of spending a long time searching through the pages for a name or topic to jump out at me.  And what if I am not near a computer or can't whip out my phone to look it up?  (I guess that's the Old School #BibleNerd in me!)  For instance, I wanted to know where the story of Zaccheus was in the Gospels.  I can quickly and easily look through these listings and find that the story of Zaccheus is found in Luke 19.  Success!  And that didn't take long at all.

I've included these sheets in my A5 Bible Reference Binder and I actually have them in a few of my Bible binders so that no matter where I am, I will have access to the information.  I decided to share this information for you, dear reader, in case you are interested in something like this!  It IS #FridayFreebie, after all.  So look for these posts every Friday for a while; I will post the New Testament first then post the Old Testament.  Look for "Friday Freebie" or "Paragraph Summary" in the labels/tags.  Feel free to copy and format them how you will use them.  I think that any Bible study information should not cost anything to anyone and would appreciate you sharing about this content and about my blog with anyone you know would appreciate what is found here.]

Word Study - Propitiation

Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.  2 Corinthians 5:18

Propitiation

that by which God is rendered propitious, i.e., by which it becomes consistent with his character and government to pardon and bless the sinner. The propitiation does not procure his love or make him loving; it only renders it consistent for him to execise his love towards sinners.

In Romans 3:25 and Hebrews 9:5 (A.V., "mercy-seat") the Greek word hilasterion is used. It is the word employed by the LXX. translators in Exodus 25:17 and elsewhere as the equivalent for the Hebrew kapporeth , w
hich means "covering," and is used of the lid of the ark of the covenant ( Exodus 25:21 ; 30:6 ). This Greek word (hilasterion) came to denote not only the mercy-seat or lid of the ark, but also propitation or reconciliation by blood. On the great day of atonement the high priest carried the blood of the sacrifice he offered for all the people within the veil and sprinkled with it the "mercy-seat," and so made propitiation.

In 1 John 2:2 ; 4:10 , Christ is called the "propitiation for our sins." Here a different Greek word is used (hilasmos). Christ is "the propitiation," because by his becoming our substitute and assuming our obligations he expiated our guilt, covered it, by the vicarious punishment which he endured. (Compare Hebrews 2:17 , where the expression "make reconciliation" of the A.V. is more correctly in the RSV "make propitiation.")

Covering; atoning sacrifice.

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the PROPITIATION for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. ( 1 John 2:1 Isaiah 2:1-2 )

Theological Implication:

The basal idea in Hebrew terms is that of covering what is offensive, so restoring friendship, or causing to be kindly disposed. The Greek terms lack the physical reference to covering but introduce the idea of friendliness where antagonism would be natural; hence, graciousness. Naturally, therefore, the idea of expiation entered into the concept. It is especially to be noted that all provisions for this friendly relation as between God and offending man find their initiation and provision in God and are under His direction, but involve the active response of man. All heathen and unworthy conceptions are removed from the Christian notion of propitiation by the fact that God Himself proposed, or "set forth," Christ as the "mercy-seat," and that this is the supreme expression of ultimate love. God had all the while been merciful, friendly, "passing over" man's sins with no apparently adequate, or just, ground for doing so. Now in the blood of Christ sin is condemned and expiated, and God is able to establish and maintain His character for righteousness, while He continues and extends His dealing in gracious love with sinners who exercise faith in Jesus. The propitiation originates with God, not to appease Himself, but to justify Himself in His uniform kindness to men deserving harshness. Compare also as to reconciliation, as in Romans 5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18.

My Bible Tote - a tour

This is my current Bible tote.  Current, because I do change things up from time to time, hoping to keep things fresh and interesting.  Not that I need change anything when it comes to my Bible work, but maybe it's my creative, organizational need to aesthetically change things up from time to time.  I usually sit at my craft table that I've got in our living room, but there are times when I want to do Bible work on the couch.  Hey, I'm not a spring chicken anymore and I like my bit of comfort, haha.   #whocanrelate 

As you can see, it is a Craftsman tool tote I found on Amazon.  They used to sell these at Sears, do you remember?  It is really sturdy and comes in a few colors.  It is not currently available, but there are other totes like this available.

Here is the Bible I am using for 2022.  I am using it as mostly a reading Bible as I do have another Bible that is full of underlining and notes and stickers.  But you know I am doing a daily Scripture writing plan and I am highlighting and dating each daily verse(s), which you can see below.

Here is my Sticker Book!  It just half pages of sticker sheets attached to half sheets of paper and already-cut stickers in zipper pouches contained in a disc bound half-size booklet.  I made the covers from thin plastic cutting mats I find at the Dollar Store and cut down to size.  Get yourself a couple of packs and have fun!

  

   

 

    

I have other sticky notes in another little pouch in this tote but the printed sticky notes pictured above are too cute and I need to remember to use them!  I put these stickers in my DSW but I don't want to take my focus off the written verses so I use them sparingly.  That's just me.

Grace - My Faith Planner

 One of my A5 planner binders is all about documenting my faith and how I am growing and learning.  Here are a few pictures and maybe you'll find some encouragement and ideas.  Please feel free to comment with any questions you may have.

Inside the front cover I have various stickers and things in the pockets as well as this Faith Girl dashboard I put together a few years ago.  I love the letter stickers and the black and white patterned paper.  That gal is sassy!

The next section is a list of Godly Goals I want to accomplish.  It also is my Faith Bucket List of traits I want to work on in my personal faith.  These are working lists and I always adding to them.

The next section I call My Faith -- I want to be consistent and disciplined in utilizing this section to record happenings in my faith life and use what I've recorded to further deepen my prayer life.

After that is a section focusing on a growing list of studies I want to do.  This covers many ideas: Old and New Testament studies, word studies, character studies, places, events, Hebrew words, Greek verbs, deep Biblical concepts, heck: #AllTheBibleProjects that I have had in my head or have heard about someone else studying.  I am considering categorizing these a little better; something like a page of lists like:

Basic Bible Information like:

Number of: books, authors, chapters, verses, languages, questions, commands, promises, prophesies...longest chapter, shortest chapter, longest verse, shortest verse....

I've also copied out short studies I have seen or heard about in a sermon or seen on Pinterest that I liked, such as "My Father Is...." "God's Desires for Women" (1 Peter 3:3-6).

and then all the studies behind those lists.  I may have to make a new binder to contain all the studies--won't that be fun?  It will also be fun to add stickers and washi tape and other decorative elements to those pages.

The next section is another series of lists like: books I want to read or buy, gratitude, Rhema scriptures, scriptures to illustrate, favorite hymns and songs, et cetera.

The last section in this planner contains various notes about what I wanted for my Faith Planner that I've taken over the last year or so.  It is lots of ideas I wanted to keep nearby so that I could keep my focus on how I wanted to put this Faith Planner together for myself.  It's probably the most unorganized section in this binder, but I do reference it from time to time to keep myself on track as to what I wanted contain in this planner.  If you haven't got focus, you just have ideas; I know I need a map of where I am and where I want to go.

These dividers were some of my own making from the Carpe Diem/The Reset Girl lines that I've had for a while as well as sassy gals from the Honeys collection from The Reset Girl.  I am not sure if she is selling these right now; I did purchase the printable files from her a few years ago.
